Empire Magazine #64, 1994

A TV Western, set in Texas during the Civil War, when the Union Army withdraws to fight the Rebs, leaving the settlers at the mercy of Indian war parties. When a passel of womenfolk and children are kidnapped, heroic black pioneer Tony Todd ventures to negotiate with the red men to get them back, though he has himself been much slighted by bigoted palefaces.
It's an impeccably liberal if faintly patronising movie, but Christopher Reeve, who has surprisingly little to do, gets billed above Todd, who carries off all the heroic business.
